Magento: Changing The Favicon

A favicon is such a small and insignificant thing but it’s the label for your store. It gives your store an identity and without it your site will just be a default Magento website.

I will be showing how to change the default store favicon for one of your own in the 1.4.1.0 version of Magento. It’s a very simple task and you will only need to replace a few small files.

To start, you need to create a favicon, which can either be made in photoshop or you can search for a favicon generator to help you create one. The most popular form of favicon is to use your own logo. This is the best choice as your logo is your website.

Once you have created a favicon, copy the favicon.ico file and paste it into the following places (making sure to overwrite the existing files):

/skin/adminhtml/default/yourtheme
/skin/frontend/base/yourtheme

After you have pasted the favicon into these folders and upload it, you should see that it is working. If you can’t see it, clear your browser cache and it will appear in the address bar.
